Change Sametime 8.5.x Meeting server port
Aug 16th
By default the Sametime 8.5.x Meeting server listens to port 9080 or above. If you’re not using the Sametime Proxy server which listens to port 80 and forwards requests to correct port you can easily change the default Sametime Meeting server port to 80 (or anything else).
Here’s how:
1. Open the Sametime administrative websphere console
(Start > Programs > IBM WebSphere > Application Server Network Deployment V7.0 > Profiles > stSTMDMProfile1)
2. Navigate to Servers > Server Types > WebSphere Application Servers.
3. Go to STMeetingServer
4. Under Communications, expand Ports and click on Details
5. Select WC_defaulthost and change it to whatever port you like, then click on save and restart the meeting server service.

Issue upgrading Lotus Notes 8.5 to 8.5.1
Jun 22nd
If you’re trying to upgrade the Lotus Notes 8.5 client to 8.5.1 and receive the following error, “Cannot upgrade AllClient installation to Notes client. The upgrade you are attempting is not supported”, simply edit the notes.ini and change the InstallType=2 to InstallType=6.
Notes/Domino 8.5.1 Fix Pack 3 has been released
Jun 2nd
I know I’m a few days late but as they say, “better late than never”
Download them for the Notes client and Domino server from here.
Cisco UC 520 and Sametime
Mar 4th
Just so you know there is currently no integration available between the Cisco UC500 series and Lotus Sametime (any version). There are plug-ins available but they only work with Cisco’ non-Express product line.
Notes 8.5.1 client hanging on a messages deleted from another client
Mar 4th
Ran into something rather annoying today. I have the Lotus Notes 8.5.1 client installed on my laptop and my desktop. From my laptop I had opened an e-mail, then closed my Notes client which also saves the state of all the opened tabs. Later on from my desktop I had deleted the same e-mail.
When I reopened the Lotus Notes client from my laptop it (the client) re-opened all my previous tabs, including the e-mail I had deleted from the client on my desktop. Long story short, when I tried to do anything the client just hung. Super annoying when you’re busy and trying to get something done before a meeting…
Fixing this dilemma is simple. Open the Notes client which had the tabs, including the deleted e-mail open. Now click on File -> Preferences, go to ‘Windows and Themes’ and make sure the first option ‘On restart, reopen any tabs that were open when I closed the client’ is not selected. Close and reopen the Notes client et voilà!
Now that Lotus Notes 8.5.1 is behaving again you can go back and reselect that option; if you want naturally
Install Lotus Quickr connector on 64-bit OS
Feb 9th
Seeing it was impossible to install the Lotus Quickr connector on Vista 64-bit or Windows 7 64-bit I finally located a work around on the IBM support forums, and have decided to share it with all of you!
1. Download the Lotus Quickr connector from your Lotus Quickr site
2. Execute the file — be sure not to click on OK when the error pops up. (Another option is to extract the MSI from the EXE file)
3. Browse to the following folder Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp and copy the file qkrconn.msi to another location.
4. Download and install Orca from here. This application allows you to modify MSI files.
5. Edit the qkrconn.msi with Orca and scroll down to the LaunchCondition table located on the left.
6. Delete the condition “(Not Intel64) And (Not VersionNT64) And (Not Msix64)” by right clicking it then selecting Drop Row.
7. Save, exit and run the MSI!
Enjoy!

My Sametime 8.5 install
Dec 22nd
Here I go, installing Sametime 8.5 in my lab environment. Figured I’d try it out in my lab before Golden Axing(tm) our production environment — you’re welcome Sally
Before I continue, let me explain the term “to Golden Axe” something is to destroy it. Usually I tend to “Golden Axe” things when I’ve been a little reckless, and yeah, it came from the video game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Axe.
Alright, back to Sametime 8.5, my ADHD kicks in sometimes, sorry…
So, I’m going to start my tests by installing the following:
Windows 2003 Enterprise 64-bit – Why Enterprise? Because it was already installed!
Sametime 8.5 Standard Community Server – Downloaded CZA62ML.zip, thank-you IBM for using friendly file names…
Lotus Domino 8.5.1 64-bit
My installation, verbatim step-by-step (
- I’ve decided to add my new Sametime Domino server to our existing production environment to ensure enough testing will go into this prior to placing it into production.
- So far the installation went smoothly, with the exception of a minor DNS issue. I pointed my lab server to our internal DNS server but since it’s not on the same domain I had to create a local entry in the hosts. file for our Domino server name Domino1.
- Just stopped Domino and started the Sametime 8.5 install running the demo32.exe file (I never understood why they called demo32) and Sametime didn’t detect my Domino 8.5.1 installation. Going to fire up Domino and try again!
- Still no luck. Maybe it really won’t run on 8.5.1 and wants 8.5? Let’s try and find out… Going to start the download of 8.5. Too bad it’s too early for a beer… I wonder…
Here’s my error:
IBM Lotus Sametime Server 8.5 requires Domino to be installed before Sametime can be installed, but no Domino installation was detected. Install Domino and then install IBM Lotus Sametime Server 8.5.
As you can see in my image (below) I clearly have Domino installed and running!
- Didn’t work with 8.5.0 64-bit. I believe the problem is 64-bit. Going to try 32-bit version of 8.5.1.
UPDATE: Well, that did it. Sametime 8.5 works in a 64-bit environment (OS) but Domino needs to be 32-bit.
As of 3.15pm today I’ve moved along nicely.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
1. You can still install Sametime on one box.
2. I’m working on it…. please be patient
Sametime 8.5 is out
Dec 22nd
Sametime 8.5 has been officially released today!
I’m in the process of download all the components for Sametime Standard 8.5 and will begin installing in my lab environment. I’ve noticed there are many new components and a lot which run on Websphere, so I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a long day
Hope to post some good news by end of day.
